This is one of the most powerful videos on letting go that I have ever seen. I get teary-eyed every time I see it and thought it was well worth a repost from last December.
In the video, Oprah describes how badly she wanted the role of Sophia in The Color Purple but it wasn’t until she could let go of her attachment to the role, that the role became hers.
When you have worked as hard and done as much and strived and tried and given and plead and bargained and hoped… surrender. When you have done all that you can do, and there is nothing left for you to do.. give it up. Give it up to that thing that is greater than yourself and let it then become a part of the flow.- Oprah
Trust that if it’s meant to be, it’ll be. And recognize that surrendering is part of the process of life. If we hold too tightly to things, we don’t give them the space they need to exist. We don’t give them the chance to come to us. So the best we can do is work toward our goals with all our heart and soul, but then let go and wait for the opportunities and paths, meant specifically for us, to unfold.
If you watched the video, I’d LOVE to hear your thoughts. Have you ever had an experience like this? Ever wanted something so bad but it wasn’t until you let it go that you got your wish? Do you feel surrendering is an important part of life?
great video. and yes, I’ve had this experience a number of times
Wonderful isn’t it? A GREAT reminder.
Oh, brought tears to my eyes!! I’ve never seen this video before. I LOVE her journey, her arc in life. I’ve just surrendered my dreams of being a writer, I should say, a PUBLISHED writer with an agent and the NYT list etc. It’s in God’s hands now, where it should be. I’ve tried to go about doing it on my own and getting no where, it’s time for me to trust, to let go, to just let things be. Thank you.
Yay! That’s awesome Traci! Soooo glad it hit home 🙂
Ingrid, you’ve been tagged 🙂 Have fun!

Hi Ingrid. Think I must have missed this one in December. Must have been too much christmas spirit!
Fighting the urge to be overprotective, letting go, and trusting fate are all counter to a parents beliefs. It’s hard to do, but in the right amounts, at the right time, it can give some of the best moments in life. And ha, when it doesn’t work out, we call it a learning experience 🙂
Cheers!
OMG, this is exactly what I am working on! It is so hard to let go when you really want something, at least for me. I have to remind myself everyday to let go and trust. But I definitely need this reminder. Thank you!
Surrender is such a powerful word. And what better voice to articulate it than Oprah’s? 🙂 Beautiful post, Ingrid.
That is beautiful. Yes, we need to let go and let God. That’s what I believe. Thank you, Ingrid.
